Students used the Acer Laptops to do and submit an assignment electronically. They had to identify the different points of view of the paragraph at each station. Stations were set up throughout the library as a gallery walk. Students then submitted their assignment and it was graded electronically using Edmodo.

Blakemore Middle School took a field trip to the Discovery Center on November 25th, the half day before Thanksgiving Break, to unlock the mysteries of the Sherlock Holmes exhibit. While there, students took advantage of the other exhibits and did a close activity and answered questions. Today, students watched a video shared by our school counselor, Mrs. Urbanczyk. After the video, students used Padlet and the class iPod Touches to share their responses to the questions: Where/When do you see bullying the most? How do you handle it when you see it happening to others or to yourself? Here are the 8th student responses to bullying. Please take the time to scroll down and over to read the student responses.
Students read the book, Divergent, as their homework assignment for the year! Those who met the requirements got to go see the movie! It was a FUN day at school! While learning how to identify theme and main idea in text, the 8th grade travelled to the elementary library. A special thanks to Mrs. Seaman, the district librarian, for her help and Ms. Ellis, the elementary principal, for allowing us to visit her campus while focusing on our learning targets. As you can see from the pictures above, the students enjoyed the change in environment and were very much engaged. I don't think we could have chosen a colder day to walk to another campus, but thanks to Ms. Ellis, hot chocolate awaited us and made the trip a 'worthwhile treat'!
Students used the Windows Tablets cart from the high school to complete a gallery walk on point of view. As you can see, students were engaged and independent workers. When they completed filling out the form on the Gallery Walk, they used our class webpage to upload their completed assignment right to me!
Happy Holidays from the 8th Grade ELA class!
On Halloween, students had the chance to dress as their Divergent faction. We are reading the dystopian novel, Divergent, as an independent reading homework assignment! Above students dressed from two of the five factions: Erudite and Dauntless.
